About Me

I am Katie Bryce and I study three dimensional design at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen, focussing on ceramics, glass and jewellery.

At the start of this year I spent 5 months studying in a wee town in Finland named Hämeenlinna. Now I am back in Aberdeen working towards my final year's degree show.

Two steel bangles

After breaking my wrist by snowboarding in the ground (not advisable), I decided to use the body as inspiration for designing a piece of jewellery.

I inspected a variety of x-rays and noticed that the veins and blood vessels that creep around our bodies appear to map out patterns- natural designs.

I used round steel wire and formed it to make it twist and turn like the veins I looked at. I experimented with welding for the first time and connected the pieces by welding the joins using bass. I love the contrasting colours of the steel and brass as they flow together.
