I am Katie Bryce and I study three dimensional design at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen, focussing on ceramics, glass and jewellery.

At the start of this year I spent 5 months studying in a wee town in Finland named Hämeenlinna. Now I am back in Aberdeen working towards my final year's degree show.

Fee Fi Fo Fum!

In 2009 I was given the opportunity to exhibit a piece of jewellery for an exhibition called 'The Darker Side of Fairy Tales'.

The story of Jack and the Beanstalk inspired my piece and I decided to focus on the sinister words 'Fee Fi Fo Fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman'.

I set cork scrabble letters within a silver frame and incorporated Jack's axe to again touch upon the darker side of the story. Finally I included the cow which was done for a couple of reasons- initially it symbolises the family's poverty, it is the last of their possessions and Jack throws it away for magical beans. On the other hand, the image of a cow is so harmless that against the rest of the piece, it provides a relief from the serious nature of the story.

This exhibition was held in Che Camille in Glasgow, 'a fashion clubhouse selling men and women's collections, accessories, fine and interactive art.' http://www.checamille.com/
